About Kustom Cane

Our Story

We have been in the customizing and restyling industry for over 28 years.

Prior to losing his vision in 2010, You Cane Give Initiative Co-Founder, James Boehm, was the successful owner of Custom Effects, with a reputation throughout the whole automotive restyling industry for his expertise. James serviced the mid-south region from 1995 to 2010 and had his work recognized in national publications across the country. Shortly after losing his sight, James noticed that there was no variation or style in mobility canes. There was only white, white, or white. Boring! Therefore, James transferred his experience from automotive to mobility, designing his first cane in 2011. James received so much positive feedback on the new, personalized cane concept, that he decided to start Kustom Cane.

In 2020, Kustom Cane became an official extension of You Cane Give (YCG), a 501(c)(3).

The You Cane Give Initiative’s mission is to educate, equip, and train the blind community, therefore instilling a sense of hope and purpose as contributing members of society. We do this by collecting donated canes, refurbishing them, and then delivering them all over the world to people in need.
