You Cane Give Initiative Expands Impact Across Ethiopia’s Schools for Blind Children

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – May 13, 2025 – The American nonprofit, You Cane Give Initiative (YCG), has made significant strides in its mission to support the visually impaired, following a transformative outreach in Ethiopia during April. Originally planned as a two-week mission targeting a single school, YCG’s initiative evolved to benefit multiple educational institutions across the country.

Throughout the month, YCG distributed over 167 white canes, essential first aid kits for cane maintenance, and solar audio players. These players were pre-loaded with the Bible, cane usage guides, inspirational music, training materials, and testimonies from disabled individuals worldwide. The distribution not only equipped students with vital tools but also fostered hope and new opportunities.

The mission featured a dedicated team, including Billy and Vitoria from Mexico and Moses, a Kenyan government official and one of YCG’s first recipients of a white cane and solar player in 2019. Their invaluable training sessions covered cane usage techniques and introduced Goalball, an exhilarating Paralympic sport designed for the visually impaired.

“Our connections with schools, leaders, and organizations eager to join the YCG movement were beyond inspiring,” said [James Boehm], a representative of YCG. “We are bursting with excitement about the relationships we’ve built and the lasting impact we are committed to making across Africa and beyond.”

Moses, YCG’s North African Ambassador, added, “Together, we are tackling the global ‘white cane famine’ head-on.”

Since its inception, YCG has served over 40 countries, delivering more than 3000 white canes and nearly 700 solar players. The organization remains committed to expanding its reach and fostering partnerships that amplify its mission.
