Challenges and Progress: Empowering the Blind Community in Ethiopia

The team encountered unexpected issues upon arrival at the airport, including missing suitcases and significant delays at customs. Despite these setbacks, they successfully reached their hotel around 2:30 AM.

The subsequent meeting with the Ethiopian National Federation for the Blind (ENFB) proved fruitful, as discussions centered on enhancing support for various critical programs. The ENFB operates a dedicated recording studio and is actively seeking additional backing to expand their capabilities.

Distribution of mobility canes and solar-powered audio players is ongoing, with careful oversight ensuring each item reaches the intended recipients. Most of the canes were successfully distributed to students yesterday.

Today, no formal program was held at the school due to logistics coordination. Tomorrow is anticipated to be busy, featuring the final distribution of canes and solar audio players, alongside the commencement of essential mobility training.

Due to the school’s remote location, the team is diligently coordinating logistics for regular visits. Additionally, the team addressed the challenging conditions at their accommodation, notably the limited internet connectivity, underscoring the need for strategic timing and communication for updates.
