You Cane Give Team Impacts Ethiopia Schools for Blind Children.

You Cane Give Initiative delivers white canes, solar audio players, and training to blind students across Ethiopia, empowering independence and inclusion in multiple schools.

April was an absolutely phenomenal month for the American nonprofit You Cane Give Initiative

Transforming Lives in Ethiopia: Mobility, Education, and Hope

In April, the You Cane Give Initiative expanded its mission across Ethiopia—impacting far more than initially planned.

What began as a focused two-week outreach to a single school evolved into a life-changing engagement with multiple institutions dedicated to serving blind and visually impaired children.

Equipping Students with Tools for Independence

Throughout the outreach, the team distributed:

  • 3000+ white canes
  • First aid kits for cane maintenance
  • Nearly 700 Solar-powered audio players, pre-loaded with:
    • The Bible
    • Inspirational music
    • Cane usage tutorials
    • Testimonies from blind individuals worldwide

These tools were more than supplies—they were symbols of freedom, learning, and dignity.

James Boehm, co-founder of You Cane Give, shared:

“We are bursting with excitement about the relationships we’ve built and the lasting impact we are committed to making across Africa and beyond!”

Empowering Through Sport, Training, and Teamwork

The mission was powered by passionate leaders:

  • Billy and Vitoria, volunteers from Mexico
  • Moses, a Kenyan government official and one of YCG’s earliest recipients of a white cane and audio player

This team delivered hands-on training in cane techniques and introduced Goalball, a thrilling Paralympic sport designed for the blind—giving students a sense of confidence, teamwork, and fun.

A Global Mission with Local Impact

By building lasting partnerships with educators, local officials, and community leaders, You Cane Give created a ripple effect of empowerment and connection. What set this mission apart was not just the tools distributed—but the relationships formed.
